Africa's answer to Disney: The Secret Princess movie staring Desmond Elliot and DJ Cuppy in cinemas 24 June

The Secret Princess is a most see family film set
for release in cinemas across Nigeria this month
from the 24th of June. Perfect for school trips.
Children in Nigeria are too often neglected when it
comes to educating with entertainment. Despite
the Nigerian film industry been the 3rd largest in
the world you will struggle to find any films made
for children.
This is why this is one of the most important films
in the history of Nollywood
with a production spanning four years and a
relatively high production budget which is reflected
in the quality of the movie.
The Secret Princess adapted from the book with
the same title is a Tale of Sade a Princess that
goes through rejection and hence has to live out
her life in the jungle while in her place a farmers
son lives a life of luxury as the Prince. The story
brings to the fore front many delicate topics in a
subtle way, with plots which include a retreat into
the forest but a far cry from the true story of the
Kidnapped Chibok girls, and a tale of witch
accusation which has been a common occurrence
in Africa for centuries and with terrible
consequences such as child abandonment and
child abuse; a far cry from the Disney like wicked
witch mixing candies. It also deals with the inferior
treatment of the female child as compared to male
child.
The Secret Princess produced by TransTales
Entertainment is 2016 winner of World Bank award
for best feature animation film at the KingstOOn
animation festival in Jamaica.

I won't leave Chelsea, if I'm to leave I'll do so as a boss'- Eden Hazard says

Chelsea star player Eden Hazard, who will captain
Belgium at the European Championship, says he is
relishing the prospect of working under the new
Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte and says he has
no plans to leave Chelsea this summer despite
being linked to PSG and Real Madrid.
“PSG are not part of my plans,” the 25-
year-old told TeleFoot. I have a contract
until 2020, I feel good here and I don’t want
to finish on a season like that. I left Lille [in
2012] as a boss and I’d like to leave
Chelsea as a boss, if I do leave one day.
But for the time being I’m here.”
When asked about last season, the £32m Chelsea
signing, said:
“Everything was complicated, it was
difficult. Honestly, for five or six years I’d
always been at my best and this was the
first season where it was more difficult but
everyone knows that in a career there are
highs and lows.
“For the time being, touch wood, I’ve only
experienced the highs – except for this
season, when it wasn’t quite as good. But
it was meant to happen this season. I hope
it doesn’t happen again next season.”

Photos: Toddler found dead in a pond, his mother suspected to have strangled him

Police investigating the possible murder of a
toddler in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last week say
witness overheard a woman threatening to kill a
boy of similar age several days before the body
was found. The yet to be unidentified toddler, who
police estimate was about 2 years-old was found
face dowm in a pond with strangulation wounds in
Chroy Changva district's Bak Khengon Friday
morning, June 3.
Bun Kimly, a penal police officer from Bakheng
commune where the boy was found, said staff at
Phnom Penh Referral Hospital found bruises on
the neck of the boy, whose parents have not come
forward.
A joint task force has been set up by the National
Police and the Child Protection Unit (CPU) to
investigate the death. CPU director James McCabe
said this is the first time since the NGO began
operating that no parent or caregiver had come
forward to claim a murdered child as their own.
McCabe said the boy was found wearing red,
green, yellow and blue pyjamas with cartoon bears
on them. He added that it is believed the murder
took place on June 1, two days prior to the boy’s
discovery by two neighbourhood children.
Penal police officer Kimly said witnesses reported
seeing a mentally unstable woman who said she
was from Kampot carrying the boy to the pond.
"If you won't come to meet me and our son, I will
kill the child." the woman was heard yelling,
Commune police chief Mean Thorn said.
The woman also told locals that she had travelled
to Phnom Penh from Kampot province in search of
her husband who she suspected of having an
affair but left in a hurry when she could not locate
him.
"I know my husband has a girlfriend in Bak Kheng.
That's why I came looking for him here, but I don't
know where he is staying." the woman said,
according to Thorn.

Australian Federal Police seizes $80m in drugs, arrests Nigerian-American, 2 Nigerian- Australian and Nigerian-Mexican

A joint operation conducted by the Australian
Federal Police (AFP) and the Australian Border
Force (ABF) has resulted in the arrest of four
people and the seizure of approximately 140kg of
methamphetamine (worth $80m) hidden
generators in Sydney, Australia. The four were
charged with importing a commercial quantity of a
border-controlled drug.
The investigation, codenamed Operation Fuchsia,
began in March when ABF officers examined a sea
cargo consignment upon arrival in Sydney from
Mexico. The consignment comprised two
containers, which held 11 diesel generators and
weighed around 15 tonnes in total. An examination
of the consignment revealed anomalies within the
generators, and the matter was referred to the
AFP.
The four charged people include a 60-year-old
Nigerian-American, a 45-year-old Nigerian-
Mexican, 48-year-old Nigerian-Australian, a 35-
year-old Nigerian-Australian. They faced
Parramatta Local Court on Saturday, June 4, 2016.
Each of the men were charged with one count of
importing a commercial quantity of a border
controlled drug, namely methamphetamine,
contrary to Section 307.1 of the Criminal Code Act
1995 (Cth), and one count of attempting to
possess, contrary to Section 307.5 of the Criminal
Code Act 1995 (Cth). The maximum penalty for
these offences is life imprisonment.
As part of the investigation, search warrants were
conducted in Melbourne on Saturday morning and
the 35-year-old dual Nigerian/Australian citizen
was arrested, and charged later.
AFP Commander Chris Sheehan, State Manager
NSW, said these arrests highlighted the
commitment of law enforcement agencies and
border protection agencies in combating
international drug smuggling.
"The size of this seizure is an indication
that organised crime groups are still
seeking to target Australian users and the
high price those users are willing to pay for
these drugs," Commander Sheehan said.
"Our work is focused on detecting,
disrupting and dismantling organised
criminal networks, and bringing to account
these groups that seek to bring harm our
community. The success of this operation
is a testament to the tenacity of the
investigators who have worked on this
operation for the past three months."
ABF NSW Regional Commander, Tim Fitzgerald,
said the successful operation highlighted the
dedicated work of ABF officers at the border, who
initially inspected and uncovered the consignment
in the two shipping containers.
"Once again, we see how a successful
border intercept by ABF can initiate a
broader criminal investigation by law
enforcement. By working together, we are
able to effectively crack down on those
who attempt to criminally import what was,
in this case, a significant amount of
harmful narcotics," Regional Commander
Fitzgerald said.
