– Lopez will be second choice to Thibaut Courtois
– Asmir Begovic is close to joining Everton
Chelsea are interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper
Diego Lopez, according to his agent.
Diego Lopez

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has opened the lid
on the purported appointment of Frenchman Paul Le Guen
as the technical adviser of the men’s senior national
team.
The media had been flooded on Monday, July 18, with
reports that the former Cameroon manager had been
unveiled as the new Super Eagles coach.
But on Tuesday morning, the former Paris St Germain
(PSG) manager reportedly denied being offered any
contract by the Nigerian federation.
Sources say he was not comfortable with some clauses in
the agreement he was meant to sign and he decided not
to accept the coaching job until things were properly
sorted out.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the NFF
clarified the controversies surrounding the appointment of
Le Guen, saying all sub–committees in the federation can
only make recommendations to the Board.
The statement signed by the chairman of the NFF media
and publicity committee, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande,
dismissed reports in local and international media of the
Frenchman’s rejection of the position as simply
preposterous.
“The press statement was clear, to the effect that all
appointments made at the Technical and Development
Committee meeting were mere recommendations, which
had to be deliberated upon and agreed to by the Board. No
sub –committee in the NFF, except the judicial bodies,
takes decisions. They only make recommendations.
“In truth, the technical and development committee perused
the profiles of all the coaches who submitted applications
and find Mr. Paul Le Guen suitable for the post. But during
final negotiations, he objected to being given a target and
also did not wish to live in Nigeria, which was a sore point
with the Board.”
Yahaya-Kwande added: “The job of head coach of Nigeria
is a very big one and there is no way anyone will get such a
job without being handed a target.
“There is absolutely no issue with Le Guen saying he is not
coming; several highly –qualified persons would be happy
to be named Manager of the Senior National Team of
Nigeria. We have a plan to take care of that eventuality.”
Nigerians have also taken to the social media to express
their displeasure with the football federation over the
recent discrepancies with the appointment of the coach.

sympathy goes to his [family]. We are all shocked
and deeply concerned," Leverkusen chief

now with his partner and his family. Sascha
Lewandowski was a wonderful person who has
left their mark in Leverkusen. "
His name is closely linked to the sporting success
of our club in recent years. It's terrible that he is
now no longer among us. We had all hoped to see
him again in the summer on a bench."

Chelsea star player Eden Hazard, who will captain
Belgium at the European Championship, says he is
relishing the prospect of working under the new
Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte and says he has
no plans to leave Chelsea this summer despite
being linked to PSG and Real Madrid.
“PSG are not part of my plans,” the 25-
year-old told TeleFoot. I have a contract
until 2020, I feel good here and I don’t want
to finish on a season like that. I left Lille [in
2012] as a boss and I’d like to leave
Chelsea as a boss, if I do leave one day.
But for the time being I’m here.”
When asked about last season, the £32m Chelsea
signing, said:
“Everything was complicated, it was
difficult. Honestly, for five or six years I’d
always been at my best and this was the
first season where it was more difficult but
everyone knows that in a career there are
highs and lows.
“For the time being, touch wood, I’ve only
experienced the highs – except for this
season, when it wasn’t quite as good. But
it was meant to happen this season. I hope
it doesn’t happen again next season.”
Over the weekend news leaked that Arsenal had
submitted a £20 million offer for Jamie Vardy with
Premier League winning sensation team Leicester
City, a figure that matched the attacker’s exit
clause in his contract.
Leicester City are powerless at the moment to
keep Jamie Vardy as his release clause has been
activated by Arsenal. They have pleaded with his
agent and the player to reconsider staying with
Leicester for one more season.
Arsenal has offered Vardy a four year contract and
he's supposed to tell Leicester today if he will take
up Arsenal's offer or not.
The Foxes must now decide whether to match
Arsenal’s contract offer, which is in excess of
£100,000-a-week
“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and
it's very good news for us - I think we can be
complimentary,” said Giroud to the BBC. "He's a
fantastic player, so it's good news for us."
Asked if Vardy’s arrival would mean a change in
formation from Wenger's usual 4-2-3-1 system,
Giroud joked: "Obviously 4-4-2. As I said in the
past I am happy with competition. We have always
had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the
best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us
win this title.
Former Real Madrid and Brazil defender Roberto
Carlos has voiced his opinion on who he thinks will
win the 2016 Ballon D'or award- and it's no other
person but Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo helped Real Madrid win the
UEFA Champions League this season and Carlos
feels it's enough to surpass Lionel Messi and Luis
Suarez who won the Spanish League and Copa Del
Rey for this year's Ballon D'or Award.
"Cristiano Ronaldo will win the Ballon D'Or,
even if he doesn't win the Euros," he said
after the Corazon Classic Match at the
Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. "Messi is a
good player, but winning the Champions
League counts for a lot," Carlos said. "The
best player in the world decided the
competition. I think he'll be the best in the
world again." Carlos also expects Neymar
to win the FIFA Ballon d'Or one day. "He
must keep doing what he's doing and he'll
be the best someday," the former Real
left-back said.
