WHAT IS SNORING: According
to Wikipedia, snoring(read more) can be define as the obstruction of movement of air when sleeping. Snoring can also be defined
as that moment or period you are asleep and can’t move air freely through your
nose and throat. This makes the surrounding tissue vibrate and then produces
snoring sound. Having known what snoring is all about let’s now look at the
causes of snoring.
CAUSES OF SNORING: There
are symptoms as regards to the cause of snoring. So many of us believe the only
cause of snoring is when a person is fat; but in the cause of this article I
will make you know other ways that can cause a person to snore thus:
1)
Having an extra tissue in the throat can cause
someone to snore that’s in the process of breathing; the other issue vibrates
thereby producing a sound called snore. The people who are mostly likely to
have this extra bulky throat issue are pregnant women, obese, or overweight
people and this is due to large adenoids, long soft palate, or long uvula e.t.c
2)
Another thing that can cause someone to snore is
anything that prevents you from breathing through your nose and this can
include: congestion from cold or flu, or deviated septum.
3)
Another thing that can cause someone to snore is
excessive daytime (all work) without sleep. This is when you are too tired and
depressed; it can make you snore while in bed.
4)
Another thing that can cause snoring is your
sleeping position. It has been discovered that those who sleep on the back are
most likely to snore than those who sleep by the side.
5)
Another cause of snoring is as a result of small
or collapsing nostrils. Probably some of us don’t know how we breathe because
it’s natural, we just sleep, breathe, and wake up and that’s all. So now you
know a small or collapsing nostril can cause someone to snore due to the thin
passage of air.

7)
Another cause of snoring is if the person most
likely uses his/her mouth to breathe and opens it while sleeping.
Other causes may include: headache,
age, nasal congestion, itching, sneezing, disrupted sleep at night and fatigue.
Having known what snoring is and the causes of snoring let’s now look at the
possible solutions or what you should do.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS OF SNORING OR WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
If you snore at night regularly, it
can disrupt your sleep leading to daytime fatigue and increase in health
problems and if your snoring keeps your partner awake, it can create major relationship problem. Having a separate room isn’t the only remedy
for eluding snoring. There are many effective solutions that can help both you
and your partner at night and overcome the relationship problems caused by
snoring of a partner:
1)
First of all identify how your partner snores if
it is a close mouth then it’s placing of the tongue, if it is an open mouth
then it is a problem from the tissue, then if it is snoring in all positions
that means he/she requires comprehensive treatment.
2)
You can tell your partner to get used to
sleeping on his/her side instead of the back
3)
If your partner has a stuffy nose, blow it off
and rinse thoroughly before bedtime, try as much as possible to stay away from
dust probably it usually affects him/her by causing nasal congestion.
4)
If your partner is the overweight type then
ensure he/she reduce fat in the body by avoiding fatty foods and regular
exercise.
5)
If your partner smokes the chances of snoring is
very high, so you can advice your partner to quit smoking.

6)
Research has been carried out that those who
consume foods like diary or soy milk before bedtime can make snoring worse and
more also eating large meals.
Other possible
solutions you can do to stop your partner from snoring include:
1)
Repeat each vowel(a-e-i-o-u) out loud for three
minutes a few times
2)
Close your mouth and pause your lips. Hold for 30
seconds.
3)
Spend some time singing. It can increase muscle
control in the throat and soft palate.
CONCLUSION:
If after doing all this for some time and you see no improvements in your
partner or your partner still disturbs you in bed time please do not fail to
consult a medical practitioner as the case may involve the secondary causes of
snoring like the nasal congestion, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP),
Palatal implants and so on, but I assure you the steps above will make you
enjoy your sleep time.
