NFF: We never said Le Guen had Super Eagles’ job

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has opened the lid
on the purported appointment of Frenchman Paul Le Guen
as the technical adviser of the men’s senior national
team.
The media had been flooded on Monday, July 18, with
reports that the former Cameroon manager had been
unveiled as the new Super Eagles coach.
But on Tuesday morning, the former Paris St Germain
(PSG) manager reportedly denied being offered any
contract by the Nigerian federation.
Sources say he was not comfortable with some clauses in
the agreement he was meant to sign and he decided not
to accept the coaching job until things were properly
sorted out.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the NFF
clarified the controversies surrounding the appointment of
Le Guen, saying all sub–committees in the federation can
only make recommendations to the Board.
The statement signed by the chairman of the NFF media
and publicity committee, Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande,
dismissed reports in local and international media of the
Frenchman’s rejection of the position as simply
preposterous.
“The press statement was clear, to the effect that all
appointments made at the Technical and Development
Committee meeting were mere recommendations, which
had to be deliberated upon and agreed to by the Board. No
sub –committee in the NFF, except the judicial bodies,
takes decisions. They only make recommendations.
“In truth, the technical and development committee perused
the profiles of all the coaches who submitted applications
and find Mr. Paul Le Guen suitable for the post. But during
final negotiations, he objected to being given a target and
also did not wish to live in Nigeria, which was a sore point
with the Board.”
Yahaya-Kwande added: “The job of head coach of Nigeria
is a very big one and there is no way anyone will get such a
job without being handed a target.
“There is absolutely no issue with Le Guen saying he is not
coming; several highly –qualified persons would be happy
to be named Manager of the Senior National Team of
Nigeria. We have a plan to take care of that eventuality.”
Nigerians have also taken to the social media to express
their displeasure with the football federation over the
recent discrepancies with the appointment of the coach.

Buhari must head negotiation group - ND group

A Niger Delta group named the United Niger Delta Energy
Development Security Strategy (UNDEDSS), has proferred
a list of solutions to the crises plaguing the region.
UNDEDSS said for the crises in the Niger Delta to be
brought to a quick resolution, the first step is that
President Muhammadu Buhari should personally chair the
dialogue team and also appoint credible Special Adviser from the region.
According to Daily Post, this solutions were offered in a
statement by the group. The statement by its Secretary
General, Tony Iprinye Uranta also urged the Buhari-led
Federal Government to follow the holistic 2009 Amnesty
Dynamics former President, Umar Yar’adua deployed in
putting an end to the agitation in the region.
The group in its staement also urged the federal
government to re-establish the Niger Delta Committee/
Council that operated five sub-Committees with the aim
of addressing arms agitation in the region.
The statement reads:
“UNDEDSS and other leading stakeholders in the region
have tirelessly interfaced with very senior members of this
Administration and given them a detailed template the
President should deploy now to resolve this growing
insecurity in the region, which is negatively impacting all of
Nigeria.
In the light of of the conflicting statements being made by
too many putative representatives of both the region and
the Federal Government, it is necessary, however, to state
that the Niger Delta is not going to know sustainable peace
via the coterie of so-called Contact Groups or Committees.
And, that there cannot be any reliable dialogue, between the
FGN and the region, without a commitment to Justice and
Equity by President Buhari himself.”
UNDEDSS also stressed that the Federal Government
should also adopt the 2008 Niger Delta Technical
Committee’s Report.
Meanwhile as the Niger Delta Avengers continue to
destroy pipelines and affect the country’s oil export.
Niger Delta Suicides, another militant group in the region,
has cautioned that it would devastate the economy in
different forms if Buhari refused to create a genuine
platform for negotiations with militants.
NDS issued a statement saying: “We, the Niger Delta
Suicides wish to warn the present government and those
clamoring to frustrate the efforts of Niger Delta Avengers to
have a rethink and create a genuine platform for dialogue,
otherwise, we will use our oil to survive and they will eat
their yam.”

house in Lagos; sources close to the music star has come
out to disclose that it was not the main wedding but a
family introduction. He also added that no registry
wedding was held. D’banj

contrary to what is being reported in the entertainment
circles, D’banj did not have a court wedding.  What took
place was a formal introduction ceremony as it is
customary between a groom’s family and that of his bride-
to-be.
The source further revealed that, Dbanj pleaded with his
bride’s parents for the introduction to be hosted at his
father’s house in Lagos because he did not want it to be
an all-comers affair. Luckily, they were in support of his
suggestion and the introduction was witnessed by only
close family members of the couple. According to his camp, he did not get married at
Onigbongbo Registry, Ikeja; neither did the couple have a
traditional introduction in Jos, Plateau state, as earlier
reported. The person said: “ D’banj has given so much
information about himself to the public and he deserves to
keep some things private and this is one of those things. He
is not worried about losing female fans; he just wants his
marriage and the impending white wedding off public
radar .”
We wish him well in his marital decisions!
